7 Tips for Planning a Fall Wedding

Love is in the crisp Autumn air!

Whew, we made it through another scorching Summer, & now it’s time for plaid, pumpkins, corn mazes & weddings. Fall weddings are increasing in popularity & we absolutely understand why. With the falling leaves & cooler breeze, the season is pure magic. Autumn can be a bit unpredictable… so having a Fall wedding outside can be a bit of a risk. Here are 7 tips to help you have a picture perfect Fall wedding:

1. Cream of the Crop

September is ever-growing in popularity for weddings & is closely behind June for the most sought-after month. If September or October are your desired month to get married, make sure that you book as early as possible. Don’t let your venue & rentals get booked out from underneath you. If you are looking to save a bit of money on a Fall wedding, consider having your wedding in November. It is a little less popular, therefore can potentially be a little more cost effective. Check with your venue(s) so see if you can score any savings.

2. Pick A Color, Any Color

Fall is arguably the most colorful season of the year which allows for a lot of versatility for wedding colors. It is completely acceptable to choose colors that are on the brighter side & keep the Summer vibes going a little bit longer OR jump right into Autumn and go to the darkside. The most utilized Fall wedding colors are natural warm tones with shades of red, yellow, purple, black, blue, orange, magenta & brown. Another color palette that is becoming more popular for Fall is jewel tones. This includes Emerald Green, Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red, Turquoise Blue & Amethyst Purple. By having Fall as a transitional season, you could get away with just about anything.

3. Eat, Drink & Be Married

A huge perk for an Autumn wedding is the food! Of course you can go a more traditional route with expected Fall foods such as apples, corn, pumpkin pie & anything else that most consider festive. Luckily, Fall is harvest season with a variety of vegetables that are fresh & in season. For cocktails, flavors that have cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin & apple are all welcomed. There are a variety of ways that you can incorporate any of these flavors into some standard cocktails to make them feel for appropriate for the season.

4. Let Love Bloom

Floral can be a bit tricky in the Fall because there is not nearly as much floral in season as there is in Spring & Summer. But, don’t let that deter you away from having the bouquet of your dreams. There is still a variety of flowers that are red, orange & yellow that are in season. If you are having difficulty finding the perfect floral for your arrangements, don’t be afraid to be creative & think outside of the box. Adding fillers such as plants, leaves or even stems & berries are a great way to add some color & texture to your wedding floral.

5. Inside & Out

Of course the biggest appeal to having your wedding in the Fall is the gorgeous changing leaves. If you’re looking to take advantage of the colorful foliage as a backdrop for your ceremony or reception, make sure that you only have your guests outside in the cold for a limited time. They may have come unprepared & will want to come back inside sooner than later. Consider having just your ceremony outside with your reception inside (or in an enclosed tent).

6. Don’t Get Cold (Feet)

Everyone knows that starting in September, the weather can start to be rather unpredictable. If your date is in the beginning of Fall, you may luck out and get a perfect 70 degree day. But, it’s a gamble on if your special day will be a bit on the chilly side. If you’re looking to get married outside, plan on having some heaters to keep your guests warm. Believe us, your wedding guests will thank you!

7. Run for Cover

If you are going to have any portion of your wedding day outside, a tent absolutely needs to be considered. You don’t want mother nature to ruin your day right? Well, chances are, there is a high possibility that you may encounter some weather, so you’ll most likely want to make sure you have your party covered. Alleviate stress & see if you can reserve a contingency tent. It is so much easier to take a tent off of your reservation the week of than try to reserve one last minute. We promise you’ll be glad you did. If the forecast is looking awful, also consider adding some side-walls & even a door to your tent to keep your guests warm all night long.
